According to the report Mexican federal police told CBC News on Sunday that the woman, reportedly in her 20s, was found lying in an elevator early Saturday.
Mexican media reports that the woman was found at the Hotel Riu in Punta Cerritos and is said to be in serious condition.
Mexican news outlet are reporting that the woman was rejected by two private clinics before finally being taken to a hospital.
The Hotel Riu Emerald Bay in the Mexican resort town of Mazatlan has several five-star ratings on travel websites, and is a popular travel destination for both Canadian and American tourists.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents involving Canadian visitors to Mexico in recent weeks.

canadian beaten in Mazatlna
Did it occur to anybody to look into the husband? so suspicious, they have been drinking until 2 am, Then they go to their room and 30 minute later she is find beaten, the first place to look is the husband, was he the one that beat her? where was he at the time of the incident? what about the survelliance videos? Riu hotel has a thight security, is an all inclusive hotel, nobody goes into the hotel wothout registering in the lobby, so the person that beat the canadian woman is either a guest or an staff member, more likely the drunk husband, do not blame this in Mexico
previous stay at Rui
I find this news not surprising. We stayed for one week at this resort. On the weekends, they open their doors to locals who bring their kids there since kids stay free. There were alot of rude, people and I saw the police there all the time. The staff were rude and to my disappointment, not a help at all.
This place is not a 5 star in my opinion, and again, anyone is welcome there, and they do not keep the locals out whereas in other 5 star resorts, they are not allowed in. This place is a criminals heaven......
